Justice League 2: Cancelled or Delayed? The Villain, Casting and Release Date for the DC Extended Universe

The Heroes of the newly created DC Universe was brought together under the direction of Zack Snyder and although it failed to garner the same attention as the Marvel movies did, it still planned to release a sequel and announced so in October 2014. The sequel to the first film was said to be released on June 14, 2019.

Although Marvel dominated the Superhero movie scene, Warner Brothers still approved the sequel, but June 14 passed by and Warner Brothers were yet to release the movie.

Why Was the Justice League 2 Delayed?

The time came for the release of the film but there was no news as of yet of the film’s cast or even that its production had begun. The film did not release in 2019 and it doesn’t seem likely that we can expect to see the film in 2020 either.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel changed dates to accommodate Zack Snyder’s schedule. Warner Brothers also decided against it and instead chose to focus on standalone movies such as Aquaman, Joker, Harley Quinn, and many other characters from the DC Comics, some of which have shown great promise.

Who Is the New Villain for the Justice League?

The Justice League dropped many hints for the eager fans about the next villain the heroes would face in the sequel. Darkseid is rumored to be the main villain for the sequel. The film also teased the supervillain alliance of Superman villain Lex Luthor played by Jesse Eisenberg and the assassin Deathstroke.

The Cast of Justice League Part Two

The Justice League sequel seems a distant dream considering the current situations of the crew members and the cast.

We know that we won’t see more of Ben Affleck’s Batman as that mantle has now been taken over Matt Reeves’ new Reboot of The Batman legacy, portrayed by Robert Pattinson of the Twilight fame.

Doubts had arisen regarding Henry Cavill’s continuation of his role as Superman, but the Warner Brothers studios addressed these rumors and stated: “We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally, we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films.”

Justice League 2 could probably go ahead without them, even though they are the essential figures of the Justice League and the DC Universe. Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, and Joe Manganiello are still listed on the IMDb page of the Justice League Part Two cast.

Further News Justice League Part Two

The first Justice League created mixed opinions amongst the fans even though it kept no surprises as to where it would lead. Now that the movie has been pushed back, it is expected that more time and care will be taken with the plot of the sequel. J.K. Simmons said work on the script was under progress in October 2017, but production was pushed back to accommodate The Batman. The Standalone films are something we can look forward to in the next year or two, before the eventual release of the Justice League Part Two can be confirmed.
